Soon mobile users searching for products on Google will start to see a small AMP lightning bolt next to certain results. This lightning bolt indicates that the content is available in mobile AMP format and therefore upon clicking they will be sent to a website that is compatible with their device. This will no doubt come as great news to many of you, as there is nothing more tedious that searching through numerous, slow loading, incompatible websites to find one that actually works.
Since the introduction of Accelerated Mobile Pages last year a gigantic 150 million AMP documents have been welcomed to Google’s index with a further approximately 4 million being added each and every week. EBay, Reddit, Disney and TripAdvisor are just a few of the leading companies to have adopted AMP.
These are four of the main AMP advantages:
1. AMP pages load in less than sixty seconds on average
2. AMP pages are four times faster and use ten times less data than non-AMP pages
3. 90% of publishers experience high click through rates (CTR’s)
4. 10% of AMP publishers experience greater ad exposure rates
Although a spokesperson from Google has spoken out saying that these AMP pages will not receive ranking boosts, they have also suggested that going forward page speed will be a mobile ranking factor, therefore we believe that these are definitely something that all website owners should be considering.
